Lots of things happened last week! That’s why I wasn’t able to find time to get this out then. So everything in this issue is about last weekend.
Let’s get into them.
visual philes.
I went to see John Wick Chapter 4 and it was everything I hoped for. The three (YES) hours flew by and I was totally enveloped in the action and story the whole time. The set pieces were excellent especially the stair sequence at the end of the movie. There was another scene in a dance club with water and excellent usage of color too. I especially enjoyed Donnie Yen’s character, Caine, who was blind. It’s always interesting to see this trait portrayed in combat sequences, especially when the character uses weapons like his did.
This week the trailer for the latest star filled Wes Anderson film was released. Visually, it is very vibrant. Perhaps it seems even brighter based on the “trend” of low lit movies that have been releasing lately. I haven’t been a fan of him long enough to participate in the “style over substance” discourse that surrounds his work. All I know is it looks cool to me, the cast sounds fantastic and the symmetry and framing are excellent.

On Friday I got a double triple dose of new music. Tyler, The Creator dropped a deluxe edition of his album Call Me If You Get Lost which was subtitled The Estate Sale. One of the songs from it, titled “DOGTOOTH” got a music video and as always with Tyler it was gorgeous. This deluxe edition had new songs. Tyler only releases high quality anything so calling these “throwaways” seems like an insult.
Larry June and The Alchemist’s collab project The Great Escape dropped and the features had me excited before I even heard them. Curren$y and Wiz Khalifa are expected and very welcomed but the Boldy James one was very surprising. You can read my thoughts on that project here.
I have only been listening to VanJess for less than a year but I was still saddened to learn that they had split. However, half of the duo is still making music. Jess of VanJess has begun using AMAKA as her stage name. She released her first solo single titled “Cruisin” and it was produced by KAYTRANADA. You can read my thoughts on it here.

I am 100% one of those people who focuses on listening to music that fits the season. With spring here, (almost) everything in my rotation fits a sunny day atmosphere.
summarized just how deep this goes in a very engaging and informational way in her latest piece.experience philes.
This is WrestleMania weekend! Last night, the Hall of Fame Ceremony was held. One of my (and many people my age) all time favorites was inducted this year: Rey Mysterio. This moment was beautiful to see.
You might remember that I held another watch party back in February for a wrestling pay-per-view. Since this is the “biggest night of the year”* in WWE - you know I had to do it again.
(*It has become a two night event in the last few years but I believe they still say this lol)
Anyway, this is what I made! Hamburger sliders on King’s Hawaiian rolls and homemade fries.
closing philes.
Many people like to set goals at the beginning of the month and I think this is a good thing to do. If you do this just remember - it’s on YOU to stick with it!
